About

森林 TREESWOODSFORESTS is a celebration of classical Chinese poetry and verse; as translated into English by sinologists, poets, authors and you!

This anthology, this collection of works, is a gathering of cultural riches from a time long ago. To those friends who once drank tea and sang songs of the divine, and were romanced by the poetry of Li Bai and Du Fu, this is a chance to once again become reacquainted with these Chinese masterpieces.

To the uninitiated, 森林 TREESWOODSFORESTS is proof of serendipity; for you are about to embark on a path not normally travelled within the mainstream of Western arts. The compositions found here are truly cherished jewels, for these are the ones selected from the vast ocean of this literary history which have withstood the test of time.

Although the T’ang dynasty (618-907 AD) is regarded as the golden age of Chinese poetry, this literary tradition stretches back 2500 years ago, to the chief Confucian scriptures called ‘Shih-ching’ and later referred to as the ‘Book of Songs’.
